Washington - Congressman Patrick McHenry (NC-10) released the following statement on the House passage of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023. This legislation will restart construction of the border wall, increase pay for Border Agents, and improve technology to to track and stop illegal crossings.

With the House passage of H.R. 2 , the Secure the Border Act, we have laid out a blueprint to combat the crisis at our southern border. This legislation continues construction of the border wall, provides additional funding for the Department of Homeland Security, and improves technology to detect and prevent illegal border crossing. The American people deserve action and this legislation will put us on a path to a secure border and secure nation.”
BACKGROUND: The Secure the Border Act of 2023 aims to address the crisis at our southern border by:
Restarting construction of the border wall
Deploying technology to the Southern border
Increasing the number of Border Patrol agents and providing bonus pay
Requiring transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
Strengthening current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking
