Tenth District Congressman Patrick McHenry’s staff will host United States Naval Academy Second-Class Midshipman Will Dettmer for an information session Monday, November 20th from 4:30 - 5:30 PM at Congressman McHenry's District Office at 1990 Main Ave SE in Hickory.

Midshipman Dettmer will be available to meet with students and parents who are interested in learning more about service academies. He will share his experiences and answer questions.

Congressman McHenry’s Senior District Representative, Nancy Meek, will also be available to answer any questions about the nominations process through the Congressman's office. Students and parents with any questions should contact Nancy Meek at 828-327-6100.


BACKGROUND on Midshipman Will Dettmer

Will Dettmer is currently a Midshipman Second-Class at the United States Naval Academy. He graduated from Charlotte Catholic High School in 2021 and arrived at the Naval Academy in July of that year. An Operations Research major, Midshipman Dettmer will graduate in May of 2025 with a goal of becoming a Naval Aviator.

As part of Summer Training for midshipmen, he has traveled across the world from New York City to Japan and plans to study next semester in the Czech Republic. Midshipman Dettmer has appeared on the Superintendent's list, Dean's list, and Commandant's list for multiple semesters in a row. He has also won a Club National Championship as a member of the Men's Club Lacrosse team.
