Today, Congressman Patrick McHenry (NC-10), the Republican Leader of the House Financial Services Committee, issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump's national emergency declaration to combat the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19):

"The President has called for a whole-of-government response to the coronavirus pandemic. By declaring a national emergency, President Trump is taking the appropriate action to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive plan of attack. This step will allow critical federal aid to flow to our states and communities in need. The President’s declaration also expedites the Administration’s options under the Defense Production Act, which could be used to support the current effort to expand access to necessary testing, medical supplies, and medicines.

“Now it’s time for legislators to work together—and with the Trump Administration—to find innovative solutions that will provide additional support to small businesses, employees, and American consumers."
