Congressman McHenry Weekly Update

Fixing Our Broken Tax Code

Our broken U.S. tax code is hurting families all across America. This is why the House and Senate both passed their versions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and voted to move to conference committee so we could work together to create a tax code that provides much-needed tax relief. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will help families and small businesses like those I represent in North Carolina. This bill will also help make American businesses competitive around the world and promotes economic growth in our communities at home. On Friday afternoon, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act conference report was finalized and released. Both the House and Senate will be voting to pass the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and send it to President Trump’s desk early next week. You can learn more about the conference report here.

Supporting Our Veterans

Last week I spoke with WLOS for their segment on the very concerning issue of veteran suicide. The brave men and women of the U.S. military make many sacrifices defending our freedoms and we need to support them once they return home. This is why the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018 that was signed in to law by President Trump last week includes provisions for yearly mental health tests so our veterans can get the support they need. Protecting Americans From Terrorism

The U.S. Department of State classifies the Islamic Republic of Iran as the world’s “foremost state sponsor of terrorism.” This week the House passed two bills to increase government oversight to help combat Iran’s support of terrorism. Watch the video by clicking here or on the image below to learn more about the Strengthening Oversight of Iran’s Access to Finance Act and the Iranian Leadership Asset Transparency Act that will help protect American’s from terrorism.
