Congressman McHenry Weekly Update
Congratulations Tenth District Service Academy Appointees

Congratulations to this year’s Tenth District service academy appointees! Five students from the Tenth District—Olivia, Clayton, Ruby, Trey, and Phoebe—will soon be joining some of the best and brightest at our nation's military service academies for the Class of 2023. I am confident that they will be excellent representatives of western North Carolina and I commend them for their commitment to serving our nation. Please joining me in congratulating these exceptional students and wishing them the best of luck in their future endeavors. A Busy Start to the Week in NC-10
Monday Morning, I was honored to welcome over 300 attendees of the Carolinas Credit Union League Annual Meeting to the 10th District, and give an overview of my work on the Financial Services Committee.

Later, I visited the SVCM Hope for Tomorrow House in Black Mountain. I was interested to hear about this innovative program helping homeless women with children in the Swannanoa Valley. In addition to stable housing, the program has an extensive counseling and mentoring component which moves residents toward permanent housing of their own.

I wrapped up my day in Buncombe County with a brewery roundtable hosted by the Citizen’s Climate Lobby. I enjoyed my discussion with members of our local brewing industry, and was interested to hear about the role climate plays in their business.

Honoring the 75th Anniversary of D-Day
This past Thursday, was the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Please join me in honoring and remembering the actions of those who fought on the side of freedom as they stormed the beaches of Normandy and began the liberation of Europe. We will never forget these heroes and their courage on this historic day.

An Update From the Financial Services Committee
On Wednesday, the House Financial Services Committee held a hearing on the U.S. Export-Import Bank. During the hearing, I highlighted the importance of reforms and modernization so the Ex-Im Bank can continue to serve as a tool to both promote job creation and combat China’s growing threat towards U.S. companies. Click here or on the image below to watch my opening statement.

During my questioning I also raised concerns with the technological advancements that have been financed by China, specifically 5G technology and the actions taken by Huawei. I asked what steps can be taken to promote U.S. companies’ competitiveness to prevent China from setting the network standards for the future. Click here or on the image below to watch Wednesday's questioning.

Myth v. Fact: Correcting the record on Democrats' border claims

House Homeland Security Committee Republicans

Time and time again House Democrats have put political games ahead of the American people. This past week was no exception. Instead of working with the President and Congressional Republicans to resolve the crisis at our southern border, they voted for H.R. 6, a bill that would only encourage the flow of illegal immigrants into our country. We need security and realistic solutions. This bill provides neither.

For 75th D-Day anniversary, late Montreat mayor's machine-gunner days honored in Normandy

The Citizen-Times

This is a great story of one of the Tenth District’s own who was one of the brave soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy 75 years ago. Former Montreat Mayor Andy Andrews incredible service in the Army brought him from Normandy to Czechoslovakia and he earned four Purple Hearts and four Bronze Stars. Although Andy passed away four years ago, his memory lives on and he is even being honored on a banner hanging in Normandy to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

House approves $19.1B disaster aid bill blocked three times by Republicans

Fox News

On Monday, the House of Representatives passed a bill to help provide disaster relief to millions of Americans. I was proud to send this bipartisan bill to the President’s desk and see him sign it into law on Thursday. This package helps the people of eastern North Carolina rebuild their communities after the devastation caused by the recent hurricanes.
