Another Successful Year of Town Hall Meetings

This week I hosted my final two town hall meetings for Gaston, Iredell, and Lincoln County constituents. On Monday, we had a tremendous crowd at my town hall in Gastonia. Thank you to everyone who took the time out of their busy day to come and share their concerns with me.

On Tuesday, I headed to Lincolnton to hear from my Lincoln and Iredell County constituents. Thanks to all who attended, I enjoyed hearing about the issues most important to you.

Thank you to everyone who came out over the past two weeks to ask questions and to hear about what is happening in Washington. If you would like to see more photos and videos from this year's annual town hall meetings visit my Facebook page by clicking here.

Back Home in the Tenth District

With Congress out of session for the August district work period, I had another busy week at home in the Tenth District. Wednesday morning, I enjoyed coffee and conversation with some community leaders in Lake Lure. Thanks to all who came out to share their thoughts on what is important to Rutherford County.

Later, I had a chance to join the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce for a luncheon in Rutherfordton. Thank you to the Chamber for hosting, it was great to hear from all who attended.

That afternoon, I was honored to present a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol to retired U.S. Army Colonel Max Burgin in honor of his tremendous service to our nation as a chaplain in the US Army. Thank you for your service Colonel Burgin!

Thursday, I started the day by joining Mark Starling at the WWNC studio in Asheville to give an update on what has been happening in Washington and how it impacts the Tenth District.

I stayed in Buncombe County for the Council of Independent Business Owners Power Lunch. It was great to talk about my work in Washington and I appreciated the questions from some business leaders here in western North Carolina about the issues important to them. Thank you to CIBO for hosting.

Touring the Tenth District

I always look forward to touring the businesses, organizations, and places that make western North Carolina such a wonderful place to call home. For my first tour of the week I visited Uniquetex in Cleveland County on Tuesday. Uniquetex is a producer of non-woven products for a wide range of uses and industries.

Later that day I traveled to Rutherfordton to tour Rutherford Regional Health System. There, I learned about the recent investment in the Surgical Services Department and renovated 2nd floor.

On Wednesday morning, I toured Cardinal Tissue in Spindale. I was impressed by Cardinal Tissue's application of cutting edge technologies in its processes and appreciate the investment they have made in Rutherford County.

In the afternoon, I enjoyed my visit with Polk County Sheriff Tim Wright as he showed me around the new Polk County Law Enforcement Center. Many thanks to the Polk County Sheriff's Department for inviting me to visit this impressive new facility. Thank you as well to all of our law enforcement officers for their service to the western North Carolina community.

Next, I traveled to Columbus for a tour of St. Luke's Hospital. Thank you to the administration, staff, and Board of St. Luke's Hospital for hosting the tour and for sharing valuable insight on the challenges facing our rural, critical access hospitals.

On Thursday, I enjoyed touring the AC Marriott, a fantastic new hotel in Asheville. I especially appreciated the opportunity to hear from the staff about their careers in the hospitality industry.

I ended my busy week with a tour of H&H Distillery and Cultivated Cocktails, a great small business in Asheville. Thanks to Taylor and Leah Howard for this tour and for explaining the distilling process. I'm proud that small businesses like this one call western North Carolina home.

It is no surprise to see that Asheville made it to the top of a list of the world's best cities for beer. Western North Carolina breweries are not just a place to find delicious beer but they also play a vital role in our communities and help bring people together from all across the world.
