Congressman McHenry Weekly Update

Townhall Meetings in the Tenth District

Over the next week I will be hosting three town hall meetings for Tenth District constituents. These town hall meetings uphold my long-time commitment to hold annual town hall meetings for each county of the Tenth District. During the meetings, I will provide an update on what has been happening in Washington and will also be taking questions directly from constituents. Additionally, members of my staff will be available to meet with constituents who have issues with federal agencies such as the Social Security Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, or the Internal Revenue Service. The full list of the upcoming town hall meetings is below.

Reducing Health Care Costs

Since the passage of Obamacare, Americans have seen skyrocketing health insurance premiums and a lower quality of care. This week the House passed three bills that will help lower health care costs while ensuring Americans have access to world class healthcare. Obamacare’s medical device tax has been both a burden for medical innovation and a tax on potentially life-saving technologies. The bipartisan H.R. 184, Protect Medical Innovation Act will permanently repeal this harmful tax and help ensure Americans have access to innovative, life-saving medical technology. Last week's passage of H.R. 6311, Increasing Access to Lower Premium Plans and Expanding Health Savings Accounts Act of 2018, and H.R. 6199, Restoring Access to Medication and Modernizing Health Savings Accounts Act of 2018 will help lower premiums and put patients and their families first by modernizing and improving access to Health Savings Accounts.

The U.S. Economy is Better Off Now

This week we heard more good news about our economy with U.S. GDP growth hitting above 4% for the first time in four years. Our economy is booming and people all across America, including families and small business owners, are feeling more confident about their futures than ever before. What I Have Been Reading

Who is Andrew Brunson, the evangelical pastor at the center of Trump's threat against Turkey?

Time

While Pastor Brunson's release to house arrest is good news, it is simply not enough. I am thankful for the steps President Trump and Vice President Pence are taking to ensure the Turkish government drops these ridiculous charges against him and releases the Pastor for good. Pastor Andrew Brunson is a Christian missionary, not a criminal as the Turkish government claims, and he should be released from any kind of detention and all of these false charges against him must be dropped.

Just-confirmed VA secretary is top North Carolinian in Trump administration

News & Observer

Congratulations to North Carolina native Robert Wilkie on his confirmation as the next Secretary of the Department of Veteran Affairs. I trust he will do a great job ensuring our nation's heroes get the high quality care they deserve.

House easily passes $717B annual defense policy bill

The Hill

This week I was proud to join with my colleagues and vote to send the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act to President Trump’s desk. It gives our fighting men and women a much-deserved pay raise as well as fulfilling our promise to rebuild our nation’s defenses and restore military readiness.
