Combatting Opioid Addiction

The opioid epidemic has devastated families and communities all across the country including right here in the Tenth District. I will never forget the story of my constituent Jennifer Kline, who lost her brother Jake to opioid addiction. She has shared her story, which you can read by clicking here, and it is a powerful reminder that the opioid crisis knows no boundaries: young or old, wealthy or poor; it impacts everyone and all communities nationwide.

There is no one size fits all solution to this crisis, which is why this week the House voted on legislation that address all different facets of the opioid crisis, from treatment and prevention to protecting communities. This week alone the House passed 32 bills to combat the opioid epidemic. Taken together, they can have a meaningful impact and help bring about an end to this epidemic. Scalise Strong

Thursday was World Blood Donor Day. In celebration of this important day, I gave blood in honor of my good friend Steve Scalise who hosted today’s blood drive to recognize the one year anniversary of the shooting that nearly took his life. Giving blood can help save lives. Please take some time and find a blood donation center near you by clicking here or here.

Thursday evening, I had the chance to cheer Steve Scalise on as he returned to National's Park to once again play on the Republican Congressional Baseball Team. Steve's recovery has been remarkable but not at all surprising knowing his faith in God, his always positive attitude, and his fighting spirit. Happy Father's Day

Today is Father's Day and I am thankful that I have been blessed to be the father of two wonderful girls. In honor of Father's Day, Speaker Ryan and I decided to have a dad joke competition. We shared some of our best dad jokes... they weren't good. Click here or on the image below to watch and decide who you think had the best jokes.
