Helping Students Achieve Their Dreams

On Wednesday, the House passed a bipartisan bill that will empower more students to achieve their dreams of attending college. While many students receive federal student aid, an alarming number of these students are not receiving adequate financial counseling. This bill helps to ensure that students and their parents have the adequate support they need in order to have the most up-to-date information on their federal student aid. Thanking Our Service Members and Their Families

The families of our military men and women also make great sacrifices for our nation. This week, I was honored to help them as I joined the USO to prep care packages for the spouses of our service members deployed around the world. Thank you to all of our brave men and women for their service.

What I Have Been Reading

Another day, another headline about the strong American economy. Last week the unemployment claims fell to some of the lowest points we've seen in the past five decades. That means businesses all across the country are hiring more workers to meet growing demand thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Tax reform hasn't just helped American businesses hire more workers. Businesses are also investing more, which has led to 4.2% GDP growth in the last quarter. In fact, the Commerce Department revised how fast the GDP grew because the increased business investment led to higher growth than previously thought.

Low unemployment claims aren't the only good news for American workers. American wages rose in August by the most since the recession ended in 2009. Rising wages combined with low unemployment provides further proof our economy is growing thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
