A Victory for Article I of the Constitution

When President Obama first launched his executive amnesty program in 2014, I said it was illegal and went far beyond the powers of his office. Since then, two federal courts have agreed, declaring the President's program unconstitutional. This week, the Supreme Court split 4-4 thus upholding the lower courts' rulings and blocking implementation of the executive amnesty. This is a significant victory for Article I of the Constitution and highlights that President Obama went beyond his powers in trying to implement this program without Congressional authorization. You can read my full statement Thursday's decision in U.S. v. Texas below.

A Better Way on Healthcare and Tax Reform

This week House Republicans unveiled the final two pieces of our Better Way agenda, these two focusing on healthcare and tax reform. These plans lay out a series of principles on what a Republican alternative to Obamacare would look like. From failing websites and exchanges to cancelled plans and lost doctors, Obamacare has been a complete disaster. Our alternative would provide more choices with lower costs. On tax reform, we would simplify the code and make it fair for all Americans. You can learn more about each of these plans by visiting Better.gop.

Innovation Initiative Continues

Earlier this year, I joined together with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy to launch the Innovation Initiative. Our goal is to advance common sense, bipartisan legislation which--with the use of innovation and technology--makes life easier for all Americans. This week, that effort continued with passage of two bills that make it easier for tech startups to work with the federal government, specifically focusing on the cybersecurity. You can read more about these two bills here. In the coming weeks, our work on the Innovation Initiative will continue as I hope to see my bills addressing crowdfunding and angel investing pass the House.

What I Have Been Reading

Survey: Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Racist, Sexist

The Washington Free Beacon

Last Congress, while serving as the Chairman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, I began investigating claims of sexism and discrimination at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This week, the Committee released a detailed report highlighting that many of the issues I first discovered have not been resolved.

Rep. Foxx moves to block new overtime rule

Hickory Daily Record

I recently shared news about President Obama's misguided new overtime rule which is likely to hurt both businesses and--more importantly--American workers. Last week, my North Carolina colleague Congresswoman Virginia Foxx introduced a resolution to block this rule. In response, I spoke with the HDR about my opposition to the President's job-killing proposal.

Local siblings in Air Force have chance encounter while serving overseas

Gaston Gazette

Nice story of two Kings Mountain brothers who both serve in the Air Force and had a chance encounter while serving our nation overseas. JonMark and Kyle Smith are both graduates of Kings Mountain High School and happened to be at the same air strip in Kuwait for a couple hours recently allowing them to reconnect.
