Congressman McHenry Weekly Update

Getting Back to Work and Back to School

This week, I joined Bloomberg’s Surveillance to discuss the path forward to get Americans back to work safely, children back to school, and what else must be done to ensure our country’s strong economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. Supreme Court Rules Against Democrat Subpoenas

In recent weeks, Supreme Court decisions have highlighted what Republicans have been saying for years, that Congressional Democrats have gone too far with many of their actions. This week, the Court recognized House Democrats’ subpoenas are just a partisan fishing expedition. For instance, subpoenas pushed by Financial Services Committee Chairwoman Maxine Waters covered an extraordinary amount of personal information—including medical information and records related to the President’s young son and grandchildren—that could not possibly be relevant to any legislation.

I hope the House Democrat leadership will be more mindful of those legitimate privacy interests and more protective of our institutional interests as the legal process plays out pursuant to the Court’s order. Click here to learn more about this week's Supreme Court decision.

Last week, the Supreme Court issued another ruling that also confirmed something Republicans have said all along: the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) structure is unconstitutional. I am hopeful that now, Congress will fulfill its responsibility to fix the CFPB and create an accountable agency that works for all American consumers. Thanking Tenth District Law Enforcement

Just before the holiday weekend began, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy went to visit the men and women who protect our national monuments and keep Americans safe: the U.S. Park Police. Click here or on the image below to watch the video honoring the U.S. Park Police and thanking them for their service.

It also serves as an important reminder to thank all our law enforcement officers for their service to our communities. While we were celebrating Independence Day with our loved ones, these brave men and women were helping to keep our neighborhoods safe. If you are an officer or if you have a family member who is an officer, thank you for your sacrifice and your service to the Tenth District community.

Soldiers from the North Carolina Army National Guard's 875th and 883rd Engineer Companies helped to sort, prepare and distribute food to provide emergency relief for those struggling during the coronavirus pandemic. I am thankful for the support the North Carolina National Guard has provided to our community during these challenging times. Please join me in thanking all the brave men and women who serve.
