Preserving Our National Parks

On Wednesday, I delivered a speech on the House floor in support of the House passage of the Great American Outdoors Act. This bill permanently reauthorizes the Land and Water Conservation Fund and addresses the maintenance backlog in our national parks. Here in western North Carolina, we know firsthand the importance of conserving our national parks and public lands, not only to ensure access for future generations, but to protect the vital economic role they play in our communities. This bill accomplishes that. Click here or on the image below to watch my remarks on the House floor.

It is great to see this bill pass during the same month that we celebrate America's National Parks. Right in our backyard, we have the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway, which, in 2019, was the second most visited national park with 14.9 million visitors. I am grateful that so many have had the opportunity to witness the beauty of western North Carolina.

We Should Not Be Wasting Time

While Americans continue to deal with the coronavirus and the impact it has had on their homes, jobs, schools, and businesses, Financial Services Committee Democrats held a hearing this week that was a complete waste of time. While we could have heard from witnesses on how to help Americans impacted financially by the pandemic, we instead spent the day discussing the partisan HEROES Act, which already passed the House with bipartisan opposition over two months ago. Watch my remarks from Thursday's hearing highlighting the valuable time we wasted by clicking here or on the image below.

China-linked Hackers Must Face Consequences

Just last month, the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI publicly accused China-linked hackers of targeting U.S. institutions in an effort to obtain intellectual property and public health data related to COVID-19 vaccine research. These bad acts puts the lives of Americans at risk and must have consequences. This week, I joined Republican Leaders Greg Walden and Michael McCaul in urging President Trump and the Administration to impose consequences on China-linked hackers who have targeted American institutions. What I Have Been Reading

Making protective equipment is a lifeline for some NC manufacturers

Hickory Daily Record

I am thankful for the ingenuity and dedication that many Tenth District businesses and workers have shown during these challenging times. It is great to see North Carolina manufacturers are now producing much-needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This not only helps keep those on the frontlines battling the coronavirus pandemic safe, but also protects jobs so that our recovery will make our economy stronger than ever.
