Congressman McHenry Weekly Update A Busy Week in the Tenth DistrictThis week I had the opportunity to visit some Tenth District businesses and learn more about the important role they play in our community as well as the goods and services they provide across the country. My first tour was at Renwood Mills in Newton where I learned about the milling process used to produce flour, corn meal, grits, and specialty mixes since 1935. Renwood Mill is a fantastic example of Tenth District manufacturing leading the way.I also stopped by Cargo Transporters in Claremont where I had an informative conversation about the crippling effect high gas prices and the broken supply chain has had on the trucking industry. They employ innovative strategies to improve safety and develop the workforce critical to our nation’s economy. It was great to finish off my visits with Tenth District businesses with a tour of American Woodmark in Lincoln County. This major employer manufactures cabinets for home improvement retailers nationwide and is active in making our area a great place to live through its community outreach initiatives. Like Renwood Mills, American Woodmark is another wonderful example that manufacturing is alive and well in the Tenth District!image widgetimage widgetimage widgetimage widgetimage widgetimage widgetimage widgetimage widgetimage widgetimage widgetimage widgetimage widget

A Busy Week in the Tenth District

This week I had the opportunity to visit some Tenth District businesses and learn more about the important role they play in our community as well as the goods and services they provide across the country. My first tour was at Renwood Mills in Newton where I learned about the milling process used to produce flour, corn meal, grits, and specialty mixes since 1935. Renwood Mill is a fantastic example of Tenth District manufacturing leading the way.

I also stopped by Cargo Transporters in Claremont where I had an informative conversation about the crippling effect high gas prices and the broken supply chain has had on the trucking industry.

Like Renwood Mills, American Woodmark is another wonderful example that manufacturing is alive and well in the Tenth District!

Thanking Those That Help Keep the Tenth District Safe and Healthy

Every day, our law enforcement and first responders help protect our communities and provide life-saving services to the Tenth District. This week, I was thankful for the opportunity to meet with some of these brave men and women and learn more about their efforts serving the Tenth District. I enjoyed touring the new Lincoln County Sheriff’s district office in Denver which serves East Lincoln County. I want to thank all those in law enforcement for their service and am grateful for this tremendous new asset to our community.

Also this week, I was honored to present a $199,946 grant check from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMSHA) to the Lincoln County EMS. SAMHSA’s Rural EMS Training Grant will fund the recruitment and training of EMS personnel, with a particular focus on addressing mental health and substance use disorders in emergency settings. Congratulations and thank you for all you do for our community!

The Fentanyl Crisis at Our Southern Border

President Biden’s open border policies aren't just leading to a staggering amount of illegal immigrants crossing our southern border, they are also making our country a more dangerous place to live. Enough fentanyl was seized by Customs and Border Protection to kill every American nearly seven times over. These numbers are terrifying, so why isn't President Biden doing everything he can to help keep Americans safe?

What I've Been Reading

Congratulations to the Lincoln Charter woman's swim team on winning their first state championship at the NCHSAA 1A/2A championship meet in Cary! It is always great to hear about the successes of the Tenth District's student athletes.

Making houses accessible: Purple Heart Homes helping improve lives of veterans

Statesville Record & Landmark

I am grateful for the incredible work Purple Heart Homes does to help improve the lives of the brave men and women who have given so much in service to our country. This is a great article on how Purple Heart Homes was founded by combat-wounded veterans to help aging and service-connected disabled veterans meet their housing needs and the vital role they play in our community today.
