Staying Busy in the Tenth District
One of the best parts of serving as your Congressman is meeting with the people and organizations that are working to make our area an even better place to call home. Thanks to the Real Estate and Building Coalition (REBIC), the Canopy REALTOR Association and the McIntosh Law Firm for having me as the speaker at their regular Public Policy Lunch Series. It was a great discussion on the economic challenges our country is facing and how we can overcome them with conservative, free-market solutions.
It was great to get back to NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville to get an update on their growth and tour their new welding school. NASCAR Tech is a tremendous asset to our community and local economy, quickly training a specialized workforce for in demand jobs. Thank you to Campus President Jennifer Bergeron and Vice President of Business Alliances John Dodson for hosting me.
Congratulations to Superintendent Dr. Jeff James and Iredell-Statesville Schools on being awarded a COPS Grant in the amount of $462,475. The Department of Justice awards COPS Grants to hire community policing professionals, develop and test innovative policing strategies, and provide training and technical assistance to community members, local government leaders, and all levels of law enforcement. This grant will be used to provide surveillance camera upgrades to keep students safe. You can read more about the grant presentation from the Statesville Record and Landmark by clicking here.
My last stop was a tour and visit with BestCo in Mooresville. Thanks to Tim Condron and team for taking time to discuss your operation and provide an update on expansion plans. A producer of over the counter drug and supplement lozenges, soft chews, coated chews, and gummies, BestCo recently announced a $177 million expansion that is expected to create 394 jobs in Iredell County.
