Congressman McHenry Weekly Update The Crisis at the Border is Getting WorseThe crisis at the border is only getting worse. Migrant encounters at our southern border this February were up a shocking 63% from February 2021. And 30% had already been encountered by CBP at least once in the past 12 months. The Biden Administration has responded to these alarming numbers with open border policies that have led to the lowest number of daily ICE detainees in over two decades. These numbers are unacceptable.

The Crisis at the Border is Getting Worse

The crisis at the border is only getting worse.

Gas Prices Are Hitting Historic Highs

Gas prices have risen so much that the average American household will spend $2,000 more a year just to fill up their cars. The Democrats are trying to blame surging prices on the war in Ukraine, corporations, and anything else they can think of but it is their own bad policies that are costing Americans so much more at the pump. Instead of working to ensure American energy independence, Democrats have been implementing far-left policies that hurt the American people.

Responding to Putin's Invasion of Ukraine

On Thursday, the House Financial Services Committee held markups of several bills to further isolate the Putin regime from the international financial system in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. During the markup, I delivered opening remarks to emphasize the importance of holding Putin and Russia accountable while also helping the people of Ukraine. This is vitally important not just because of Russia; we must also remember China is watching too. Any sign of weakness or unwillingness to support other democracies around the world will be noted, and potentially exploited, by growing threats like the Chinese Communist Party. Click here or on the image below to watch my opening remarks.

One Year Later, Americans Are Worse Off

President Biden signed the $2 trillion so-called “American Rescue Plan” into law one year ago. Instead of being “rescued” Americans are now worse off thanks to skyrocketing inflation that has sent the price of every day necessities like gas to record highs. Check out this graphic from the House Budget Committee Republicans on where we are one year after the so-called “American Rescue Plan”.

What I've Been Reading

Hickory High grad who died in Vietnam will soon find his final resting spot in Arlington Cemetery

Hickory Daily Record

On February 26, 1968 Hickory High grad, Cpl. James "Jimmy" Deese, gave his life for his country while serving in Vietnam. This April, his loved ones will have him moved from his resting place in Hickory so he can be interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. Today and every day I am thankful for the brave men and women who have served this great nation.
