Modernizing the IRS

For years the IRS, like our tax code, has been in need of a complete overhaul. On Wednesday, the House passed the 21st Century IRS Act a crucial bipartisan step towards reforming and modernizing the IRS, enabling it to better serve the American people. Click here or read my full statement to learn more about this important legislation.

Included in the 21st Century IRS Act is a bipartisan, bicameral bill I introduced in 2017, H.R. 3860, the IRS Data Verification Modernization Act of 2017. This bill makes a small but important change to the way the IRS verifies income for individuals and small businesses seeking basic financial products like a mortgage or small business loan. This bill, included as Section 301 of the 21st Century IRS Act, requires that the IRS stop using a manual process involving fax machines to verify income and instead use an automated process, thus shortening the IRS’ response time from as much as a week to mere seconds. On Wednesday, I spoke on the House floor in favor of this bill, which you can watch by clicking here or on the image below.

Honoring the Life and Legacy of Barbara Bush

This week, we lost an incredible American as former First Lady Barbara Bush passed away at the age of 92. Throughout her years in the public eye, Mrs. Bush always carried herself with the utmost integrity. With a strong personality and an unforgettable sense of humor, she served as the rock for one of America's great families, keeping them together through success and adversity, happiness and sadness. Giulia and I join with the rest of a grateful nation in remembering and celebrating the life of Mrs. Bush. Our prayers are with the entire Bush family as they continue to mourn this loss. You can read my full statement on the passing of Mrs. Bush by clicking here

Celebrating North Carolina Beer Month 2018

This April we once again celebrate the numerous craft breweries that call North Carolina home and the many positive impacts these breweries have on our communities. Western North Carolina—and the Tenth District specifically—is home to many of North Carolina's best breweries. Regardless of whether or not you enjoy beer, it is important to recognize both the good paying jobs these small businesses create but also their role in bringing the community together by hosting local events and community gatherings. Click here or on the image below to learn more about how you can celebrate and try some of North Carolina's delicious beers.
