Congressman McHenry Weekly Update

Memorial Day

Today as we enjoy time with our family and friends we remember all those who lost their lives bravely defending the freedoms we enjoy. I am thankful for all of our nation's heroes and everything they do to keep us safe. Please join me in honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defending this great nation and may God continue to bless all those who serve today.

Rolling Back Harmful Dodd Frank Regulations

Since Dodd Frank was enacted one in five American banks have closed, which prevents American families and small businesses from accessing the financial tools they need. On Wednesday, the House passed the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act rolling back burdensome Dodd Frank regulations that harmed community banks and limited American families and small businesses’ access to credit. Earlier that day I delivered a speech on the House floor in support of this common-sense bipartisan bill. Watch Wednesday's speech by clicking here or on the image below. You can also read full statement on this important legislation by clicking here.

I also had the opportunity to join Varney & Co. on Fox Business to discuss how rolling back harmful Dodd Frank regulations will help community banks like those I represent in the Tenth District. Click here or on the image below to watch.

Click here or on the image below to watch my interview with Bloomberg to discuss how this bill is the first significant and meaningful reform bill to Dodd Frank since it was enacted.

On Thursday, I was honored to be invited to the White House for the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act signing ceremony. Click here or on the image below to watch the shout out I received from President Trump.

Supporting the U.S. Military

Despite the rise of global threats such as Islamic extremism and rogue regimes like Iran and North Korea, under the previous administration, the U.S. military did not receive the funding and resources they needed to face these attacks to our freedom. On Thursday, the House voted to pass the National Defense Authorization Act of 2019, which not only helps fulfill President Trump’s commitment to rebuild our military but also gives our troops a well-deserved pay raise. I was proud to join my colleagues and vote to support our nation’s heroes as they protect and defend our country’s freedom. Gaston Gazette

My prayers are with the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office, Caromonth Health and the entire Gaston County law enforcement community as they mourn the loss of Corporal Katelyn Self and Caromont ER Nurse Amanda Self. Please also join me in keeping all the other victims of this terrible tragedy in our prayers as they recover, especially Mrs. Self and Gaston County Police Officer Josh Self.

'Right to try' bill passes Congress

CNN

On Wednesday, the House voted to send the Right to Try Act to President Trump’s desk. Terminally ill patients deserve every opportunity to try and find a cure but bureaucratic hurdles have often prevented them from accessing new and experimental treatments. This week's vote removes these hurdles and gives patients that very opportunity. I’m proud to join my colleagues and the Trump Administration in supporting this important legislation that gives patients and their families something that they deserve—the power to choose.

Trump proposes cutting Planned Parenthood funds. What does that mean?

NBC

I applaud President Trump for his continued efforts to protect the sanctity of human life. We must do everything we can to defend those most vulnerable among us and the President’s proposal is a long-overdue but vitally important step in the right direction.
