Supporting School Safety

Our children should always feel safe at school. This week, the House passed the bipartisan STOP School Violence Act to help make our schools safer. This legislation will provide resources to train students, teachers, and local law enforcement on how to prevent violence in our schools. It also encourages the sharing of best practices between local schools and state and federal law enforcement agencies. Happy St. Patrick's Day

I am always proud to celebrate my Irish heritage and its patron saint on St. Patrick's Day. This year I was honored to again join President Trump, Speaker Ryan, and the Taoiseach of Ireland, Leo Varadkar, at the Friends of Ireland Luncheon held in the Capitol's Statuary Hall on Thursday. The Friends of Ireland Luncheon began in 1983 by two proud Irish Americans, President Ronald Reagan and Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill. Speaker Ryan and President Trump have continued this time-honored tradition. You can learn more about Thursday's events—which included a Capitol Police bagpipe player—by clicking here.

Women's History Month

This month we celebrate women's history and the countless important contributions women have made here in the United States and all across the world. It is also an important reminder to celebrate and honor all of the powerful and important women of every day America. According to the Department of Labor 47% of U.S. workers are women and close to 10 million American businesses are owned by women. Click here for some more information from the Department of Labor celebrating women in the workplace.

'God Made Me Black on Puropse'

POLITICO Magazine

I highly recommend this piece on Senator Tim Scott. Tim is an impressive leader, not just for South Carolina but for our nation as a whole. It is important that more people learn about his goals and how he's working to accomplish them. It is a powerful, powerful story..
