Celebrating Pastor Brunson's Release

For over two years we have called for the release of Pastor Andrew Brunson. Today, our prayers were answered and Pastor Brunson can finally be reunited with his family. Pastor Brunson, who is originally from Black Mountain, North Carolina, was imprisoned in Turkey on October 7, 2016. On March 13, 2018, Pastor Brunson was issued an indictment filled with bogus charges relating to terrorism and espionage. Click here or on the image below for my full statement on Pastor Brunson’s release.

In May, a bipartisan group of my colleagues in the House and I sent a letter denouncing the wrongful imprisonment of Pastor Brunson. You can read the letter by clicking here. I also called for the release of Pastor Brunson in a June speech on the House Floor, which you can click here. On Saturday, I was honored by President Trump's invitation to join him and Pastor Brunson in the Oval Office to celebrate his return home. You can watch Saturday's meeting by clicking here or on the image below.

Firefighters Grant Workshop

On Wednesday, my office held it's annual FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program workshop for Tenth District fire and rescue departments on the campus of Gaston College in Dallas. It was a great turnout and special thanks to Cherryville Fire Chief Jeff Cash and Assistant Chief Jason Wofford for serving as instructors for the class.

In the Tenth District, fire and rescue departments use these grants to help them better serve their communities. A great is example is the Linconlton Fire Department, a recent recipient of a grant, which is planning on using the funding awarded to hire additional full-time firefighters. Did You Know?

The House of Representatives has been very productive. While you may have heard about historic legislation like the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the important steps the House has taken to combat the opioid epidemic, and the well-deserved pay raise we voted on for our troops, the House of Representatives has done much more. Since January of 2017, the House has been working hard on the issues that matter in the Tenth District and all across the country. Gastonia police go pink for breast cancer awareness

Gaston Gazette

The month of October is breast cancer awareness month. This month we honor and remember all of the mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends who have suffered from this terrible disease. The Gastonia Police Department is doing its part to raise awareness by wearing pink badges on their uniforms. It is inspiring to see our law enforcement officers, who keep our communities safe every day, go above and beyond for their neighbors in Gaston County.
