Congressman McHenry Weekly Update

Keeping Our Borders Secure

I commend President Trump for making the case directly to the American people about the ongoing border crisis. I support his call to reopen the government and fully fund the wall. We need border security now. You can watch President Trump's Oval Office address on the crisis at the border by clicking here or on the image below.

Opposing Misguided Legislation

On Wednesday, I delivered a speech on the House Floor in opposition to the Senate Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) appropriations bill. This bill was a misguided effort to end the partial government shutdown without addressing border security funding. Just as important, this bill failed to address the needs of families and small businesses who are underbanked and underserved by financial institutions all across America. Click here or on the image below to watch the full speech.

Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

Although we celebrated Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on January 9th our law enforcement officers deserve recognition every single day. Please join me in thanking these brave men and women for their service to our communities and everything they do to keep our families safe. I am thankful for the sacrifices and dedication of our law enforcement officers here in western North Carolina and all across the country. God bless you for all you do to protect this great nation.

What I Have Been Reading

Now in the minority, McHenry changes course; can he and Maxine Waters agree on anything?

Asheville Citizen-Times

Recently, I discussed my new role as the Ranking Republican on the House Financial Services Committee with the Asheville Citizen-Times. I share some of my goals as Ranking Member, including my efforts to ensure all American families and small businesses have access to the banking services and credit they need.

Shelby Star

2018 was a good year for the Tenth District with companies expanding and new jobs created all across the district. In Cleveland County alone 140 jobs were created in the past year and eight local companies expanded and invested in the Cleveland County economy.

Furniture maker will create 200 jobs in NC with new plant and ties to Crate and Barrel

Charlotte Observer

It looks like 2019 will also be a good year for the Tenth District. In Catawba County a furniture maker, Design Foundry, is creating over 200 jobs with a new plant opening in Hickory. It is great to see western North Carolina, already home to so many wonderful manufacturers, welcome a new furniture company that will help grow the North Carolina economy by $320 million.
