Congressman McHenry Weekly Update

More Good News

Since the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act we’ve seen consumer confidence go up, small business optimism rise, unemployment at record lows, and millions of job openings. A recent study shows that wage growth has hit a 17 month high and they are going to continue to grow. This month's Department of Labor job report once again brought great news for our economy. This time they reported that unemployment is at the lowest rate it has been since 1969. Appealing For Disaster Relief for May's Severe Storms in NC-10

In May, severe storms, flooding, and landslides caused significant damage that our Tenth District neighbors are still recovering from. Below are the images from when I visited some of the areas impacted by these storms back in May. This past week, I joined with my colleagues Senator Richard Burr and Senator Thom Tillis, to send a letter to FEMA Administrator Brock Long regarding Governor Cooper’s appeal for a major disaster declaration. If this appeal is granted, it would make it easier for those impacted to receive the help and assistance they need to recover from these deadly storms. Click here to read the full letter.

Ending the Opioid Crisis

The opioid crisis has caused pain and suffering in communities all across the country including here in western North Carolina. Last week, the House voted on a bipartisan, bicameral bill that addresses all sides of this devastating crisis from addiction prevention to providing resources for law enforcement and families as they combat this crisis in their communities and in their own homes. Click here to read my statement on last week's passage. This week, the Senate voted to send this important bill to the President's desk and President Trump released a statement highlighting the significance of this bill in ending opioid addiction. Click here to read President Trump's statement on the SUPPORT Act. What I Have Been Reading

'Bravest officer I've known': South Carolina officer killed was 30-year veteran of the force

WCNC

Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe. We were reminded of the sacrifices they make this week in South Carolina. Please join me in praying for the Florence County Sheriff's Office, the Florence Police Department, and the families of Officer Terrence Carraway and the others wounded in this tragedy.

Canada, US confirm new deal with Mexico updating NAFTA

Fox Business

When running for President, Donald Trump committed to renegotiating our trade deals so that they actually benefit American consumers and workers. With this week's announcement of the United States Mexico Canada Agreement on Trade, President Trump has followed through on that promise. I’m confident the USMCA will correct the errors of NAFTA and truly work for the people and industries here in western North Carolina.
