Welcome Home Pastor Brunson

On Saturday, I was honored to join President Trump in the Oval Office of the White House to welcome Pastor Andrew Brunson home. Pastor Brunson, who is originally from Black Mountain, North Carolina, was imprisoned in Turkey on October 7, 2016. On Friday, over two years later, Pastor Brunson was released and finally reunited with his family here in the United States.

In May, a bipartisan group of 154 Representatives joined Congressman David Price and me in sending a letter denouncing the wrongful imprisonment of Pastor Brunson. You can read the letter by clicking here. I also called for the release of Pastor Brunson in a June speech on the House Floor, which you can click here to watch. You can also read my full statement on the release of Pastor Brunson here.

Cutting Bureaucratic Red Tape

Since President Trump took office, his Administration’s regulatory reform efforts have helped save our country $23 billion. I am proud to have supported President Trump’s efforts so we can fulfill our promise to reduce bureaucratic red tape that wastes taxpayer dollars and negatively impacts the lives of hardworking Americans. You can learn more about these efforts in the graphic below courtesy of the White House.

Hurricane Florence

It has been one month since Hurricane Florence caused so much damage and suffering to our neighbors in eastern North Carolina. I am thankful for all of our emergency responders and their tireless effort to save lives last month and those working hard to help rebuild and support those impacted by this deadly storm. Check out this graphic for a great by-the-numbers look at the federal response in NC thus far courtesy of FEMA. I’m proud to have played a part in ensuring this federal aid is provided through my votes to provide the Carolinas with over $10 billion in aid. You can learn more about those efforts here

What I Have Been Reading

Funeral plans announced for NC trooper who was fatally shot during traffic stop

Charlotte Observer

My prayers are with Trooper Kevin Conner's family and his fellow North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers as they mourn his passing. This is a tragic reminder of the sacrifices our law enforcement officers make to keep our communities safe. I am thankful each day for everything they do.

US regains title of world's most competitive economy

Fox Business

We've heard nothing but good news about our economy this month. This week, the World Economic Forum announced that, for the first time in ten years, the United States has regained the title of the world's most competitive economy. Earlier this month, the Department of Labor announced U.S. unemployment had hit its lowest level in almost fifty years. The Department of Labor also announced that job openings hit an all time high in August so it is no surprise consumers and small businesses are more and more optimistic about the future of our country.
