Congressman McHenry Weekly Update

Back Home in the Tenth District

The Tenth District's first responders represent some of the very best in our community. Recently, it was an honor to take my daughters with me to attend the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) Grant check presentation to the Lucia Riverbend Volunteer Fire Department in Gaston County. This competitive grant was awarded through the Department of Homeland Security and will help the Lucia Riverbend Volunteer Fire Department better serve residents here in the Tenth District.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

This coming Saturday, October 26th, the Drug Enforcement Administration is hosting a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day with locations around the country where you can safely dispose of your unwanted or unused prescription drugs. In 2018 almost 10 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs and the majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends. You can do your part to help end the opioid crisis here in the Tenth District by safely disposing of your unused prescription drugs. Click here or on the image below to find a collection site near you. You can also check out my website by clicking here to find out more on how you can safely dispose your unused prescriptions drugs.

We Need the USMCA

Instead of focusing on partisan political games we should be doing what we were sent to Congress to do: help the American people. This means supporting the USMCA. North Carolina exports more than $10 billion annually in goods to Canada and Mexico. The USMCA will help to support the almost 32,000 jobs that trade with Canada and Mexico brings to our state. We need the USMCA trade agreement so we can continue to help support businesses, workers, and families here in the Tenth District and all across the country.

What I Have Been Reading

135 House Republicans co-sponsor resolution to censure Schiff over 'parody' reading of Trump-Zelensky call

Fox News

It is clear that Chairman Adam Schiff cannot be trusted to run an unbiased investigation. I joined my colleagues on the censure resolution because House Democrats need to stop playing partisan political games and return to a process that is fair, objective, and fact-based.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, Capitol Hill veteran and Maryland Democrat, dies at age 68

USA Today

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Chairman Elijah Cummings. I got to know Chairman Cummings during my time serving on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. While Elijah was a tough partisan with whom I rarely agreed, he was a decent and thoughtful man who always conducted himself as a gentleman. He will be missed by all. My prayers are with his family, loved ones, staff, and the people of Maryland’s 7th District as they mourn.
