Congressman McHenry Weekly Update

Protecting the Unborn

It is vital that we protect the lives of those that are the most vulnerable among us. It is for this reason that I have joined my colleagues in the House to call on Speaker Pelosi and our Democratic colleagues to vote on the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Act. I am a proud co-sponsor of this bill, introduced by Representative Ann Wagner, which would ensure that any child born alive during an abortion is provided the procedures needed for them to survive. Protecting the Sanctity of Human Life

Last week, President Trump also took an important and much-needed step to protect human life. The Administration announced the Title X Program would be subject to a revision of regulations that would ensure we prevent taxpayer money from being used to subsidize abortions. The Title X Family Planning Program was never intended to be used for abortions and I am proud to stand with the President as we continue the important work of protecting the sanctity of human life. Black History Month

Every February, we recognize countless African American leaders and the many meaningful contributions the African American community has made to this great nation. The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum have joined together to pay tribute and honor African American history and culture. What I Have Been Reading

Former Gastonia veterinarian, legislator remembered fondly

Gaston Gazette

I was saddened to learn of the passing of former NC Representative W.W. “Dub” Dickson. Dub was a great public servant and was a tremendous mentor to me when I was elected to the NC House. He was the definition of a gentleman and left his mark on North Carolina and Gaston County in countless ways. He will be greatly missed.

Soldiers celebrate homecoming from Middle East deployment

Gaston Gazette

This week the Gaston County community welcomed home a National Guard unit based in Kings Mountain. These brave men and women have finally returned home after serving overseas for almost a year. I am thankful our heroes have returned safely home to the Tenth District. God bless these troops for their service and all of the men and women serving in our armed forces.

New organization formed to support veterans

Lincoln Times-News

I am thankful we have dedicated men and women like Joe Briggs that call western North Carolina home. Joe not only served his country by joining the Army but he is continuing to work with his fellow service men and women by creating an organization that will provide the support they need when they return home. Thank you for your incredible service Joe.
