They Feel Pain

This week the House of Representatives passed H.R. 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. In recent years, it has been scientifically proven that unborn babies at the 20 week mark can feel pain. Our bill restricts the horrific practice of allowing abortions after 20 weeks and puts in place criminal penalties for anyone who performs these abortions. There is no greater gift than life. This bill continues my unyielding commitment to protecting the lives of the most vulnerable at every turn. Passage of a Fiscally Sound Budget

On Thursday, House Republicans took an important step in our work to fix our nation’s broken tax code with the passage of the FY 2018 Budget. The House passed budget resolution balances in ten years, strengthens our national defense, and achieves nearly $7 trillion in deficit reduction over that same time frame. Most importantly, this bill includes instructions that allow us to work with President Trump on a tax reform plan that can pass with 51 votes in the Senate. You can learn more about the FY18 budget here. For my full statement on the passage of the FY 2018 Budget click here or on the image below. Remembering the Victims of the Las Vegas Shooting

My prayers go out to everyone impacted by the unspeakable violence that occurred in Las Vegas a week ago today. Among those injured was Tina Frost a 2012 graduate of Boiling Springs' Gardner-Webb University. It is heartwarming to read about the support she and her family have received in this article from the Gaston Gazette. Rob Williford, a Gastonia native and guitarist for country star Luke Combs who played at the music festival, shares his memories from that harrowing night in this article. I join with all Americans remembering the 58 men and women who were killed in this horrific tragedy

What I Have Been Reading

4th Fort Bragg soldier killed in Africa identified

The Fayetteville Observer

My prayers are also with the families of the four Green Berets deployed in the African country Niger who were killed earlier this week. The four soldiers were all stationed at Fort Bragg. The deaths of these four men highlight the continued dangers our men and women in uniform face throughout the world. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Manufacturing week in Gaton takes you behind the scenes at high-tech operations

Charlotte Business Journal

In honor of National Manufacturing Day--which was Friday--I enjoyed this article highlighting some of the high-tech operations that call Gaston County home. In recognition of National Manufacturing Day, Gaston County deemed last week Manufacturing Week in the County to highlight these important businesses.

Purple marks domestic violence awareness in Gaston County

Gaston Gazette

President Trump recently delcared October Domestic Violence Awareness Month to help raise awareness of and combat domestic violence. Domestic violence is a national issue that--as the story above highlights--impacts our area as well. It is great to see Tenth District agencies helping advance this important effort.
