Protecting Your Personal Information

The Equifax breach impacted millions of Americans and exposed a major flaw in our nation’s cybersecurity laws. Two weeks ago I introduced the PROTECT Act, which takes an important first step in addressing these shortcomings and providing meaningful reforms focused on helping Americans who have been impacted by this breach. This week, Senator David Perdue of Georgia introduced a Senate companion bill to the PROTECT Act that, like my bill, provides protection by creating a national credit freeze that prohibits the largest credit reporting agencies from continuing to rely on American’s most sensitive personal information: our Social Security Numbers. To read my full statement on the PROTECT Act click here. Recently, I had the opportunity to join CNBC’s Power Lunch to discuss the Protect Act. You can watch by clicking here or on the link below:

Tax Reform Helps You

The U.S. tax code is broken and is not working for Americans families. To address these failures, we have produced a unified framework for tax reform which you can read more about at fairandsimple.gop. This week Congress marked another significant milestone in fixing our tax code when the Senate passed the FY 18 Budget that paves the way for the Senate to pass tax reform with 51 votes.

The unified framework is our plan to create a tax code that will create more good-paying jobs and allow you to keep more of your paycheck. This week, we saw the release of two studies highlighting how tax reform can lead to significant wage growth. You can read those studies by clicking here or here.  The Wall Street Journal also outlines how tax reform will increase wages in this piece. Students pack meals for Haiti

Gaston Gazette

The young people of western North Carolina are already proving themselves to be leaders in their community. Credit to the students of Cramerton Chrisitan Academy for coming together with parents, teachers, and faculty to pack enough meals to feed about 10,000 people in the impoverished nation of Haiti.
