Congratulations Speaker McCarthy
This week, I was honored to support my good friend Kevin McCarthy in his efforts to be elected Speaker of the House which culminated with his election early Saturday morning. Kevin has served as the leader of House Republicans for the last four years as we fought back against then Speaker Pelosi and reclaimed the House majority. He laid out a clear plan with the Commitment to America and I’m confident he will be a strong leader for our conference.

While this week’s process to elect Speaker McCarthy was messy at times, I believe that it was important for our conference to come together, debate how the House should operate, and ensure it works for all of our members. I was proud to play a leading role in negotiating with my colleagues like Chip Roy of Texas and my good friend and fellow North Carolinian, Dan Bishop to ensure that the rules package House Republicans will approve this week works for all sides of our conference. It was not always pretty but the result will enable the House to get back to working the way it was designed, with individual members and committees driving the process instead of centralized power held by leaders like former Speaker Pelosi.

I heard from many of you throughout the week who contacted my offices to express your opinions about who should serve as Speaker. As always, I am extremely grateful to all who reached out to share their thoughts. While some might disagree about Speaker McCarthy, I am confident that he is the right leader for House Republicans. Further, I believe that the inclusive process we saw this week—where all sides of our conference came together to find consensus—will improve our ability to provide conservative solutions for the American people. Now, we must get to work.
