Protecting the Unborn

Every unborn life is precious and I will always vote to protect the lives of the most vulnerable among us. That is why I voted yes on the life-saving Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act—a bill I was proud to cosponsor. This bill will help ensure that any child born alive during an abortion is provided the procedures needed for them to survive and imposes strong criminal penalties for failure to provide such care.

Like so many others, I’ve been horrified and disgusted by the violence against pro-life organizations, including an attack right here in North Carolina that occurred last year. These organizations provide much-needed services to women and children in our communities and I am thankful for their commitment to ensuring we protect and cherish God’s greatest gift—life. I was proud to cosponsor and vote for a resolution that passed this House this week which forcefully condemns the ongoing violence against pro-life and religious groups.

A Government Working For Americans

House Republicans have hit the ground running upholding our promises to the American people. The very first bill we voted on in the 118th Congress rolls back $80 billion in IRS funding that was part of the partisan tax-and-spending bill Democrats forced through last year. This funding would be used to supersize the IRS with 87,000 new IRS agents, giving them more staff than the Pentagon, State Department, Border Patrol, and FBI combined. This means that the IRS—which already disproportionately affects everyday Americans—would have even more power to squeeze lower and middle-income taxpayers. In fact, it is estimated that an IRS with 87,000 new agents means nearly one million additional audits per year on Americans making less than $200,000. Every day Americans deserve a government that works for them, not against them, which is why I am proud to have voted yes on this bill.

Honored to be Selected Chairman of the

House Financial Services Committee

This week, I was honored to be formally selected as the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. After serving on this Committee for my entire tenure in Congress, I’m prepared to lead a dynamic group of Republican members as we work to deliver on our Commitment to America. As Chairman, I will pursue an innovation and opportunity agenda. We will focus our efforts on conducting appropriate and aggressive oversight of the Biden administration, as well as pursuing bipartisan legislation to put Americans back in control of their personal financial data, enhance capital formation opportunities, and develop a comprehensive regulatory framework for the digital asset ecosystem. I’m excited to get to work to rebuild the greatest economy of my lifetime, which we experienced pre-pandemic under Republican leadership.

What I've Been Reading

Law enforcement officer deaths from firearms remain high in 2022

Fox News

On Monday, we recognized Law Enforcement Appreciation Day,  a day to remind us of the service and sacrifice of our local law enforcement officers. Tragically, at least 64 officers were shot and killed in the line of duty last year alone. Please join me in honoring our Tenth District law enforcement officers and thanking them for their dedication to our communities. The Tenth District is blessed to have these brave men and women protect and defend us each and every day. Today and every day, we are thankful for your service!

Family says daughter was giver in life, now as organ donor after fatal bike crash

WBTV

This is beautiful reminder that even in the midst of tragedy, there can be hope. Morganton native Kristi Crowder was killed in a bike accident last week, but now she is literally saving lives by donating her organs. Please join me in praying for the family and loved ones of Kristie Crowder as they mourn her tragic passing.

‘A Tremendous Commitment’ Officials break ground on first facility in Burke Business Park

The News Herald

It is great to see economic investment coming to fruition in Burke County. Unix Packaging selected the Burke Business Park to house its distribution facility, which will create 100 new jobs in the area. I look forward to watching as economic investment in Burke County continues to grow.
