Congressman McHenry Weekly Update

What Do You Think

As Congress heads into its August district work period, I wanted to get your opinion on where things stand. Below is a series of poll questions on the important issues facing our nation including healthcare, the economy, and national security. Please take a moment to share your opinion by clicking on each of the three images below.

As I've done every year since I was first elected to Congress, I will be hosting a town hall meeting in each of the seven counties that comprise the Tenth District. You can see the full list of dates and times for those meetings here. I intend to discuss the issues above at these meetings. In the coming weeks, I will use this weekly email to share the full results from the poll questions.

In God We Trust

Yesterday marked the 60th anniversary of President Eisenhower signing legislation which formally adopted 'In God We Trust' as the official motto of the United States of America. 'In God We Trust' was first penned by Francis Scott Key in 1812 as he watched the American flag, battle torn from British bombing, still flying above Fort McHenry. Today, the motto stands as an important part of our nation's identity and it is truly an honor to see it engraved above the Speaker's rostrum each time I step foot on the floor of the House of Representatives in Washington.

What I Have Been Reading

Surprise landing: Air Force son returns home to mother's embrace

Gaston Gazette

There are few things better than seeing a service man or woman return home to surprise a loved one after time spent serving our nation overseas. Recently, Kings Mountain native and current Air Force Airman Dylan Beaver did just that as he surprised his mother Stephanie Wilson after he returned from a year of service across the world in South Korea.

Lincolnton National Guard soldiers celebrated with 'welcome home' ceremony

Lincoln Times-News

Wonderful to see local National Guard soldiers returning home safely to a heroes welcome after spending over a year on a security mission in the Middle East country Bahrain. The Lincolnton Army National Guards Alpha 1st 113th Field Artillery Battalion recently celebrated their return home at a ceremony at the James Warren Citizens Center. Thanks to all the soldiers for their dedicated service defending our nation.
