Introducing the Right to Test Act

Rapid testing is crucial for enabling our country and the economy to rebound from the disastrous impacts of COVID-19. While it is wonderful to see the private sector spearheading these efforts as outlined in this Wall Street Journal article, states should be able to join them in working towards expanded testing capability. This is why I introduced H.R. 7017, the Right to Test Act. The current pandemic has taught us that widespread and readily available testing is key to our ability to quickly and effectively respond to an emerging public health emergency. This bill—which is the House companion to legislation introduced by Senator Ted Cruz of Texas—enables states to develop and deploy their own testing capacities whenever there is a public health emergency. Congratulations Tenth District Graduates

Please join me in congratulating all of the young people here in the Tenth District who are graduating from high school and college this spring. Over the last couple of months, they have faced unprecedented challenges, and I applaud these students, their teachers, and their parents for achieving this incredible accomplishment in the face of these challenges. On Friday night, Lincoln Charter held their graduation ceremony, an especially memorable ceremony as it was held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. While not the graduation they had planned, what a great way to celebrate these impressive young folks and I was proud to be able to participate. Congratulations class of 2020!

Thank You Tenth District

Although North Carolina has started to reopen we must continue to do everything we can to battle the coronavirus. Whether it is the businesses producing much-needed personal protective equipment, the health care workers on the frontlines, or the teachers and administrators who have mentored this year's graduating class, I am thankful for these heroes and the many more who have kept our community strong during this crisis. Let us continue to support our Tenth District small businesses, protect the most vulnerable, and keep our community strong. What I Have Been Reading

Texas congressman Sam Johnson, conservative former Vietnam POW, dies at 89

Reuters

There aren’t many members who when they speak, everyone listens. Sam Johnson was one. It is a rare thing to meet an American hero with such strength, fortitude, and faith, and it was even rarer to work with one. Sam was one of the finest human beings I’ve served with and I’m honored to have called him a friend. May he rest in peace.

And on a lighter note, as a native North Carolinian, I’ll never forget the time I saw Sam finish 7 Krispy Kreme doughnuts during a Deputy Whip meeting. We will miss you Sam.

'Brothers that have given their best'; local display honors veterans

Statesville Record and Landmark

Many of us here in the Tenth District and across the country observed Memorial Day a little differently this year, yet we still found away to come together to honor and remember. This display in Iredell County served as a solemn reminder of the North Carolinians who lost their lives bravely defending our great country. We will always be thankful for these brave men and women and remember their sacrifices as they fought to protect the freedoms we hold dear. God bless this great country.

A Short Biography of Patrick Henry

The Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation

On May 29th, 1736 Patrick Henry was born. In addition to having a great name, Patrick Henry delivered the revolution’s famous line “give me liberty or give me death” and fought to include the Bill of Rights in the Constitution. Please join me in celebrating the incredible life of this founding father!
