Congressman McHenry Weekly Update

Passage of the CARES Act

The coronavirus pandemic is unlike any economic or health crisis our country has faced. Vast parts of the economy have voluntarily shut down in an effort to save American lives. That is why I supported Congress's passage of the CARES Act, that President Trump signed in to law on Friday. We need to provide relief to American workers, businesses, and families immediately..

While not perfect, the CARES Act will provide much-needed relief to families, workers, and businesses here in the Tenth District and all across the country as we work together to overcome this national emergency. Click here or on the image below to read my full statement on the CARES Act.

Discussing the Benefits of the CARES Act

On Thursday, I joined Bloomberg Markets: Balance of Power to discuss the bipartisan CARES Act, which had just passed the Senate 96-0. I shared my thoughts on why I support this vitally important legislation and how it will provide much-needed support to workers, families, and small businesses that have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic here in the Tenth District and all across the country. Watch my full interview by clicking here or on the image below.

I also had the opportunity to join Fox Business’s After the Bell to discuss the CARES Act. Again, I shared the importance of this bipartisan legislation for  families and workers here in the Tenth District and all across the country. I also addressed how this bill will support small businesses as they are affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Click here or on the image below to watch:

What I Have Been Reading

Libraries step up their game

Gaston Gazette

This is a great example of how our neighbors in the Tenth District continues to serve one another while following safe social-distancing guidelines. In Shelby, the Cleveland Memorial Library has been offering curbside pickup for books, audiobooks, CDs, and DVDs while keeping the library closed to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Teachers reassure with a wave as they drive by homes of out-of-school students

Hickory Daily Record

In these uncertain times, communities across western North Carolina are finding unique ways to be there for one another while also working to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Teachers at Clyde Campbell Elementary wanted to encourage students so they organized a teacher parade. They drove by the homes of students to wave and let them know they were thinking of them as they worked from home.

This congressman's family runs a distillery. They're shifting to hand sanitizer

Roll Call

My friend Representative Denver Riggleman of Virginia has joined his family in temporarily converting their distillery in to a hand sanitizer manufacturing facility. The Riggleman family is working together to produce hand sanitizer for hospitals, first responders, fire departments, and other organizations that are most in need in their community. Thank you to the Rigglemans!
