Congressman McHenry Weekly Update

Reforming Our Nation's Healthcare System

While this week we faced a set back in our efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare, the House of Representatives did make progress on fixing our nation's healthcare system with the passage of two significant pieces of legislation. First there was the Competitive Health Insurance Reform Act, a bipartisan bill that passed with over 400 votes and would help ensure greater competition in the health insurance market, something that will drive down costs for consumers. You can learn more about that bill here.

Additionally, the House passed H.R. 1101, the Small Business Health Fairness Act of 2017. This bill marks the first step in our work to achieve our long-held goal of allowing small businesses to work together and purchase health insurance across state lines. You can learn more about this bill--which also passed with bipartisan support--by clicking here or on the image below.

Visiting Washington?

During a busy week in Washington like this past one, there is nothing better than seeing some friendly faces from the Tenth District visiting the Capitol. This week, as I was on my way to vote, I ran into a school group from Gaston County who was in the middle of a Capitol Tour my office had arranged for them. The group of eighth graders from Cramerton Middle was in Statuary Hall when I had the chance to speak with them. As I was talking to the group, Speaker Paul Ryan passed by and said hello to the group as well.

The spring and summer months are a busy time for visitors to Washington. Between school groups, families on spring break, and summer vacations, my office looks forward to arranging tours throughout Washington for Tenth District visitors. For complete details on the tours my office can help arrange, which include the US Capitol and the White House, please click here.

Proud to Support - NASA Reauthorization

Earlier this week, President Trump took an important step to ensure our nation remains the world leader in exploration as he signed into law S. 442, the NASA Transition Authorization Act of 2017. This bill authorizes funding for NASA for fiscal year 2017 maintaining our nation's commitment to our space program and the vast technological advancements the space program has enabled. This bill passed both the House and Senate with unanimous bipartisan support and President Trump was joined by current and former astronauts and members of both parties when he signed it into law this week. For a detailed look at what S. 442 does, click here or on the image below to watch a quick video.

What I Have Been Reading

Terror on the Thames: London attacker kills 4, injures 40

USA Today

I was horrified Wednesday to see another terror attack strike a major European city, this time at the seat of government of one of our closest allies, the British. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, including the one American who was killed. We remain fully committed to standing with our British friends to confront the grave threat posed by radical Islamic extremism.

Congressman Patrick McHenry on Financial Inclusion through Technology

Crowdfund Insider

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to deliver a keynote address at the LendIt Conference in New York City. During the address, I laid out my legislative priorities for fintech focused on making it easier for small businesses and entrepreneurs to access capital. Following the speech, I sat down with Crowdfund Insider to further discuss my priorities.
