McHenry: Americans Need Answers from Yellen on Mismanagement of Emergency Rental Assistance

Today, the House Financial Services Committee held a hearing with the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Marcia Fudge. During the hearing Congressman Patrick McHenry (NC-10), the Republican Leader of the House Financial Services Committee, called for the Biden Administration to be held accountable for its mismanagement of the COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) programs. Last month, McHenry led all Committee Republicans in introducing H.R. 3913, the Renter Protection Act to fix the Administration’s mismanagement of the ERA programs, get the funds out the door quickly, and help keep more American families in their homes.

Last week, Congressman McHenry sent Chair Waters a letter calling for Secretary Yellen to testify alongside HUD Secretary Fudge at today’s hearing to answer for the Administration’s abject failure in managing the ERA programs. Unfortunately, Secretary Yellen was not in attendance, which is part of a growing pattern of the Treasury Secretary skirting Congressional oversight.
