McHenry on House Passage of the Great American Outdoors Act
Washington, July 23, 2020
Congressman Patrick McHenry (NC-10), released the following statement on yesterday's passage of H.R. 1957, the Great American Outdoors Act, which includes the permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and addresses the maintenance backlog in our national parks.
"Last night's vote is a victory for all who enjoy our nation’s numerous national parks, rivers, and other protected areas. Since its inception over fifty years ago, the LWCF has preserved public lands here in western North Carolina and throughout the country, helping sustain the vital role they play in our communities—all without any expense to the taxpayer. I know firsthand how important this is, in North Carolina alone, the outdoor industry has supported 260,000 jobs annually. By permanently reauthorizing the LWCF and addressing the maintenance backlog in our national parks, we’ve guaranteed these protections will remain in place for generations to come."
