Congressman Patrick McHenry spoke to a gathering at the P.E. Monroe auditorium on the Lenoir-Rhyne University campus Tuesday night about the state of the nation and what he's been doing lately in Washington, D.C. Hundreds of millions of Americans will be forced out of their current healthcare plan, Medicare cuts will mean fewer benefits for seniors, bureaucrats will have the authority to restrict healthcare services, taxpayers will fund benefits for illegal immigrants, federal and state taxes will increase, and the cost of healthcare premiums will rise. In 2008, fewer than 300 people attended my annual 10 town hall meetings. This year, 4,980 people attended. I heard a diversity of opinions and ideas on many issues.
