Congressman McHenry Weekly Update

Happy Thanksgiving

I hope that everyone in western North Carolina has had a happy and restful Thanksgiving weekend. We as Americans have so much to be thankful for. From the men and women serving in our armed forces throughout the world to the officers in blue who keep our communities safe each and every day. Here in western North Carolina, we are especially thankful this year for the firefighters working day and night to combat the ongoing wildfires raging throughout our area. May God continue to bless all those who serve our communities each day.

Interested in Attending the Presidential Inauguration?

This January, our nation will again celebrate the peaceful transition of power as our new President is sworn into office at the United States Capitol in Washington. If you are interested in attending this historic event, my office can help. If you are a Tenth District resident, you can apply to receive tickets by clicking here and filling out the form. Due to increased demand, tickets will be distributed via a lottery system. For additional information on the inauguration and the ticket distribution process, click here or on the image below.

Visit to East Lincoln Speedway

In March, I heard from multiple Tenth District constituents about a new EPA regulation that, if instituted, would have put many amateur racers and related businesses out of business. In response, I introduced a bill called the RPM Act to block this misguided regulation from Washington bureaucrats. In response to the introduction of my bill, the EPA withdrew their regulation. Last month, I visited East Lincoln Speedway in Stanley where I had the opportunity to both learn more about and test drive the race cars that the EPA was attempting to regulate. SPEED SPORT was there to cover my visit and you can see their report on my visit by clicking here or on the image below.

What I Have Been Reading

First U.S. service member killed in Syria

The Washington Post

Awful news on the night of Thanksgiving as we learned an American soldier was killed in the line of duty in Syria. This is the first time an American serviceman has been killed in the ongoing Syrian civil war. My thoughts and prayers are with this soldier's family and with all the men and women who remain in harm's way.

4 cops shot in 24 hours in 4 cities, 2 shootings called targeted

CBS News

Again this week, we experienced heinous attacks on members of our law enforcement community as police officers in both Texas and Michigan were killed in the line of duty. Our men and women in blue put their lives on the line each day to keep our communities safe. These horrific attacks against our officers must end.

The Unlikely Ornament King of Gastonia

Our State Magazine

I thoroughly enjoyed this story about former North Carolina State Senator Marshall Rauch. The story tells the story of how Rauch, a Jewish man, became on of the world's largest Christmas ornament makers, with the entire company starting in Gastonia.
