Video: Obama’s Budget Proposal: What could you do with $3.73 trillion?

Bookmark and Share
Posted by Patrick on February 18, 2011
On Monday, President Obama sent his FY2012 budget proposal to Congress.  Simply said, this $3.73 trillion proposal spends too much, borrows too much, and taxes too much.  Meanwhile, House Republicans have worked this week to make $100 billion in cuts to current year spending – and we’re just getting started.  This is a down payment on the long term deficit reduction plan we will undertake beginning with the budget process in March.

I’d like to share the following video with you – where just some simple math helps put the massive size of the President’s budget into perspective.  If you like it, please pass it along to your family and friends.  And as always, I’d love to hear your feedback.

Your right. Now we need to pass the Fair Tax and get this country back on the road!

Good job! I think we should forward this to Kay Hagan! What a joke with her. I am still in the file waiting for a return phone call. And not to mention the fact that our company cannot keep absorbing the rising costs of healthcare. Sooner or later it will come down to the people getting fed up and doing what just happened in the Middle East.

I am an 81+ year old woman drawing Social Security. I have offered to agree to have my Social Security check reduced by 5% IF every member of Congress as well as every Bureaucrat would agree to a 5% cut in salary. I thought this would be substantial because there are so many Bureaucrats as well as folks drawing Social Security!
  • Charles Sims commented on 2/18/2011
So instead of 3.73 trillion it is going to be 3.63? Not much of a cut. Spending needs to be controlled.
  • jean crawley commented on 2/18/2011
Patrick, if I understand this correctly, what you are proposing is a drop in the bucket. Ten per cent would be 370 billion. That would be easy. Just cut every program by 10 per cent. We would still be at Three trillion and three hundred and thirty billion. Why do we have troops in Germany left over from WWII? Some areas could be cut more. NEA has failed and they still do not get it. We spend many times more on educationand but we are 36th in ability to teach. They just do not get it. It is not money that educates. Try vouchers and get competition in it and let's see what happens. We could cut more than 10 per cent there. Thanks for defunding Planner Parenthood! This is a start. Take out all the groups that were Acorn and just changed their name. Increas the age for SS. Use flat tax and get rid of the IRS. This is a no brainer. People live longer. Do it in ten years from now, not seventy years from now as proposed. That is insane. You are proposing a band aid. Please listen to the voters and cut to really make a diference! Jean Crawley

In addition of talking about 'cut' in programs, etc., what about thinking of ways to generate revenue? One EXCELLENT source of revenue is alcoholic beverages. Tobacco has been taxed to the max. I AM an EX smoker for many years. I am also a retired RN and have seen many, many more mental, health and social issues related to use/abuse of alcoholic beverages. How many auto accident deaths are related to tobacco? Or alcohol? How many families are torn apart by tobacco? Or alcohol? How many physical impairments are related to tobacco? Or alcohol. I challenge you - and the entire legislative body - to take on the alcohol industry the way you took on the tobacco industry. Do you have the courage to do it? Respectfully, Peggy Lowman Valdese, NC

Thank you for standing up for the working people of, not only your district, but of the entire country. North Carolina has been blessed with your leadership and common sense. I'm dismayed that the liberals held onto the Senate but, hopefully, that will end during the next election when we will also elect a Republican President. Thank you, again, for what you have done for me, personally, and for your efforts to right our ship of state.

Barack Obama is spending our tax money faster than it can come in. He spends money like Paris Hilton on Steroids!!! {feel free to use that phrase}... If he stays in office much longer we will be a Third World Country.. I have heard of all kinds of cuts in defense spending and education spending but I have not heard one thing about all the money we spend on illegal aliens. The free medical, dental, food stamps, free school lunches, clothing, not to mention the cost of their education. Also they will get Social Security, I heard our wonderful Senators voted for that, even though it will be broke soon and they didn't put a dime into the system. And why should we give them citizenship too . Please explain to me how this is fair.I sure hope I get an answer although I don't expect one...A VERY CONCERNED CITIZEN...

Dear Sir. Thanks for the info. I think it is time to get rid of Obama and most of the government. They are getting out of hand. I am a retired disabled VietNam vet. I was informed today that I am being taxed another $32.20 a month on my retired pay. I guess this is the thanks I get for risking my life for freedom. I just love the way my government keeps screwing me every chance they get.
  • Charles Cummings commented on 2/18/2011
Dear Rep. McHenry, Please keep working on cutting the spending- including the entitlements that I am currently receiving. We must reduce government spending and all the hand outs for every social program. We can NOT afford government health care! You know the job of the government and it is NOT to create projects to spend money. We also need to have less party partisanship - try to work together before I have to vote for a third party (regardless of who they are) because of party politics - it just sends a bad message. Thank you for your efforts - now start governing and stop spending!

  • Richard Sutton commented on 2/18/2011
Kudos for wanting to trim the budget! Shame on those that want to cut spending in vital areas like research, the FDA, the NIH and important research grants. Why don't you look at the REAL culprits?? CUT THE DARN FOREIGN AID PAYMENTS TO EVERY TOM, DICK AND IDIOT THAT HAS A COUNTRY!! How 'bout cutting the aid to big corporate farms instead of throwing 45 million americans to the wolves (The insurance companies!) with regard to health care. I have watched the debates with interest and you guys are going off the wrong end of the pool. I sincerely hope Obama vetoes the disgrace of a bill you have created with HB1.
  • Randy McSwain commented on 2/18/2011
I totally agree with your comments, and my hope is Congress will implement cuts as aggressively and promptly. It's a national security issue. Ideas for you: 1. Given the seriousness of this problem and the efforts required for the long term, consider forming (yes spending) a Department of Government Quality and Efficiency, whose mission is to focus solely on uncovering specific cost reduction programs, measuring and reporting the actual costs eliminated, and actual government costs vs budgeted amounts. 2. Require the President, Speaker of the House, House Minority Leader, Senator leaders, to jointly give a data based, factual report of the progress our country is making in reducing costs and how we the government is actually performing vs. it short term and long term budget goals and deficit levels. Suggest doing this during the State of the Union address or an annual stand alone communication event annually. The problem is important enough to command this type of communication and attention. 3. Just as there are special skills and knowledge required to practice medicine, law, engineering, education, etc., there is a special set of skills and knowledge to reduce costs. State of the Art are Lean Methods and Six Sigma. This are proven successful in every economic sector, including government (U.S;.Air Force is Lean, cities have successfully applied these methods) To ignore these methods is for the strongest country in the world to use "less than the best". Contact me if I can help, and good luck. Respectfully, Randy McSwain 110 Victoria Park Drive Shelby, NC 28150

Please do NOT "trim" the spending. I would suggest that you ASSAULT the spending. We don't need departments of Education and Energy. America did fine without them for 200 years. State/County Governments can handle education much more efficiently. We should NOT have "Unions in Government". This is a huge part of our deficit problem in that their pay and benefits are way beyond free market levels. Prior to retirement, I ran a couple of multi-million $ manufacturing businesses. In lean times, we HAD to cut costs to survive. We did NOT increase our spending, but rather decreased it. Let's live within our means. We are truly living in a "Land of Pure Insanity". Let's go back to common sense and Founding Father's values. Again, don't "tweak or trim". Go ALL OUT!

Again Mr. Congressman you are nibbling around the edges. Who has the courage to cut the budget $400B this year and $400B next year? Certainly not our president and certainly not our Republican Congressman from NC.. I say cut 10% across the board now! Yes, Defense; yes Medicare and Medicade; Just stop the bleeding! I just can not believe we want a USA as a secondary country... In addition put in a $1.00 federal gas tax over five years to stimulate domestic production so we are not dependent on the Mid east slime balls. We need to change the playing field.

I live in Rhodhiss, on the Burke Co.side. I have been unemployed for the past 17 months and there are no jobs here. My husband and I have been struggling to get our mortgage paid. After many, many months the Western Piedmont Council of Government has successfully worked with our mortgage holder (Chase) to lower our monthly payment by $140.00. A huge relief for us. We are behind on our car payment to. Now I realize that it would be a whole lot easier to just let the car be re-poed but, I bought it in 2007 and in order to find a job I obviously need a vehicle. We have custody of our 2 yr. old grandson also. at this moment in time we are chasing one bill to the next. It is so tiresome. We don't eat out, we don't go to movies, our only form of entertainment, other than the 2 yr.old) is we have basic DirecTV and internet through Century Link. Groceries get bought out of necessity not because it is in the budget. I cannot begin to tell you just how depressing it is. I have my Assoc.Degree in Business Management and was earning $13.40 an hour, now I get $204. a week unemployment. There is this huge push for people to go back to school, I did and it's not helping. I am watching my sister struggle through her college courses. The courses are geared for students coming out of high-school. My sister is 52 and she is reduced to tears upon doing her homework assignments. It's like those of us that were born at the end of the Baby Boomer era are lost in this world of technology and youth. we're disposable and no-one cares. what are we to do. We cannot afford groceries and yet Obama wants to spend another 13 trillion. UNEXCEPTABLE !!!

We feel helpless with this President. Now that we're retired and (gratefullly) living on hard-earned fixed pension incomes (a thing of the past), we fear the future for ourselves, our children (all college educated - some unemployed) and our grandchildren. What could we do with $3.73 Trillion? I cannot even wrap my mind around that amount. I want reform from big government, cuts within an inlfated IRS organization, cuts from duplicated community programs that serve the least deserving with the most of our taxes. Find old fashioned small business incentives and stop fearing big business that hire and used to employ rather than downsize. Stop playing union favoritism and shenanigans and start rewarding good work. I may not know all the nuances of running a government but somehow I think the old perverbial $10K toilet still exists. We need accountability, in government, the workplace and foreign policy. This may be all too vague and rhetorical flapping, but it is all so complicated. Just knowing your energy and fearless outspoken stand on these issues is surely a beginning. Thank You.

Good Job Congressman McHenry. Obama has no idea of what is going on in the lives of ordinary American Citizens nor does he care. He had a free ride along with his wife all the way through college and Law School simply because he says he in a minority... an African American. I guess he finds it convenient to not claim the 50% of his blood line that is white...his mother. So he says he is an African American when he takes the census. Why can't we all just be Americans? I am going to start answering what race I am as either a European American or a Confederate American,,,it's no different than what any black is doing when they declare they are African American. Most of the blacks saying this could not survive a week in Africa they would kiss the ground as soon as they got home to America. My real question is why are we as Americans allowing him to be our President when he has never been able to produce a valid birth cirtificate saying he was born in America. His grndmother says she was in the hut in Kenya when he was born...who are we to believe...right now I'm betting his grandmother is right. Every President up till Obama has had the Governer of the state in which he is born sign of that the candidate elected to the office of President is indeed a born citizen of the state in which he claims to be born. But the Gov. of Hawia would not do so as he could not produce a birth certificate from any hospital anywhere in the state. Nancy Pelosi signed the form...like we could trust her to tell the truth. I don't understand why the House and the Senate do not both pass resolutions demanding that Obama either provides a valid birth certificate or send the U-haul trucks and let he and Machelle pack their personal belongings and load up the kids and head to a state up N. that voted for him. We may just have to do like the people of Egypt have done and that his kick the scum out of the top of our goverment....but it would take a bunch of U-Haul trucks to load up Obama and about half of his friends who are trying to make us a socialist state. Representative McHenry...please keep up the pressure on Obama and the others that can't deal in reality. And if you need us to all load up our cars and pickup trucks and drive with our concealed weapons to Washington to show that the Average American is mad a Hell and we are not going to take it any more. Then just say the word, as many folks would be more than happy to drive up there and take over the place for a while. God Bless America!!!

While cutting back is good; it's not enough. There's got to be daily habits changed in Washington as well! For too long, government has been left unchecked and it's growing out of control. When current figures show that 1 out of every 8 Americans is living at or below poverty level; it's time for MAJOR changes to be made so that the poor aren't being robbed while the rich keep getting richer. With the current tax system in place; that's exactly what is happening. The rich get to hide their assets and retain their money while the government continually gobbles up the paychecks of the poor. The first major change that needs to be addressed is the initiation of a Fair Tax Program where EVERYONE pays the same amount of tax and do away with the filing of taxes all together! The second major change that needs to be addressed is the robbing of the American Social Security System and Welfare Programs by the ever-growing number of illegal immigrants to our country. It's time to shut the borders down completely. Anyone who tries to cross the border illegally should be returned immediately. If they proceed to try to cross the border, then orders to kill them should be issued. It's absolutely ridiculous that we have Americans whose lives are in danger by immigrants who refuse to try to come to our country legally. It's time for the free handouts to stop! The third major change that needs to be addressed is the return of jobs to America. The companies who've been rewarded for outsourcing workers should be penalized (extra importation tariffs and higher business taxes as long as they continue to refuse to bring those jobs back to America. Finally, ALL pork-barrel spending SHOULD BE COMPLETELY stopped! Too much of our money is being wasted on keeping and/or "watching" to be sure the environments for special insects, birds, and other animals are protected and cared for in our country. No animal is more important than a human being! I have nothing against animals, but I certainly don't see keeping some animal up while we have millions of Americans who go to bed each night with nothing eat!! Thank you for representing our people so well and listening to our concerns and thoughts! Keep up the great work! God Bless You!

Congressman McHenry, Thank you for representing your constituency by strongly objecting to the proposed Obama budget. I totally agree that we must cut spending drastically - not spend more. Its time for a flat tax (fair tax). Lets get serious about reducing spending. Our defense budget is greater than Russia and China! Really, we cant find anywhere to cut the defense spending? Entitlements, lets look at ALL and find the waste to reduce spending. Foreign aid is another place we could find some ways to reduce spending. My young son even understands if he has ten dollars and goes to Walmart he can't spend eleven dollars. Get real, live within your means Washington, our future depends on it!

I appreciate what you are doing, to keep us informed as to the goings on in Washington. I agree with most who have commented on this page. I totally agree that even more needs to be cut from this monstrosity of a "budget". I am almost seventy years of age, and am drawing social security. I also am still working full time. I have "my budget" under control. It isn't easy to do, but with perserverance, it can and MUST be done. I agree that we need to start "slashing" programs that aren't effective, such as the IRS, education and taxes. Please get the "flat tax" put into law, and get rid of the monstrocity which we now have.

I salute you sir in bringing forth the problems we face fiscally in a way that even left field liberals should understand. My biggest concern, of which there are many, is where are we suppose to collect the money that obama ( notice the small "o" in obama, I respect the office but not the man) needs to continue on with this path of irresponslble spending. The public surely has paid their way and those who are struggling, so why is obama helping (foreign aid) and then denounces us to foreign powers. When is he genuinely going to help US, when he leaves office in (2012), I pray Very excellent video. Rep. On top on President Obama's excessive budget, when is Congress going to act on the number of illegal people in this country? - What will happen when the taxpayer doesn't have to pay for all the costs of the illegal immigrants and their children (born here or not) being in this country? - How does this improve class room size and the extra efforts teachers have to put in to ensure that those students in the classroom with English as a second language meet the annual yearly growth (what does that cost the local communities / school systems)? - What reductions in costs, medicare and social security, would that save our government? This money should only be paid out to the people that have actually paid into the system. At the rate of debt that our goverment is creating, I don't expect to see any of that money back and I'll be 50 this year. - What costs would it save the taxpayers when we have to pay higher hospital bills and our insurance premiums keep going up to offset the higher costs? - How about the costs from the illegal drugs and conterfeit goods, how much money would it save by protecting our borders??? - How about the costs of Homeland Security, since we haven't defended our borders, when will the radical groups planted here start hitting major cities / events? What will those costs be when they destroy us from within??? Calculate the costs, then take actions to control our borders!!! You can reduce a lot of the money that our government wastes, on people that legally do not belong here. Also, vote out all of the golden parachutes created for Congress by themselves, for themselves. Force them to live on what they expect the rest of us to live on. Then it wouldn't take long for them to come up with ways to fix the system!!!
  • Matthew Buchanan commented on 2/19/2011
First off thank you for standing up for the larger cut, but why are so many Republicans voting for a smaller one? It is a time in our history we have to stand together regardless of party line. In addition, why would anyone excited about cuts in the system be suggesting more regulations. We do not need to tax alcohol more, or tobacco. That is the problem, the Government needs to step back and let the system fix itself. This is not a matter of what the Government should be gaining revenue off of, but how can she stop over spending what she already has. I agree that it may be destructive, but is it the Governments place to tell a citizen he or she has to pay more to enjoy a drink? NO! We have lived under the thumb of the Government so long that even people who consider themselves to be conservatives do not even no what conservatism is even about. Take a gander an Mark Levins Liberty and Tyranny, it may help. Once again thank you for your stand, keep up the good work. - Matthew Buchanan

KISS, KEEP IT SUPER SIMPLE... Well the simpliest way to get this economy going is to reduce the cost of energy and to cut all corporate taxes. Corporate taxes, like most any other tax is eventually paid by the end user or the consumer. People that don't think will say 'yes, tax the corporations', but in the end, we all pay that tax at the store. Cut corpoate taxes and get all the business and jobs you need back in North Carolina. Now the next thing is energy prices. We need all the energy producing plants we can get in N.C. and all over the USA. Higher supply, less cost. Lower the cost of energy, lower the cost of producing everything else. It's that simple. Oh, but this will never happen with GREENIE WEENIE SOCIALIST LIBERALS IN THE WAY, SO, LETS GET THEM OUT OF THE WAY SO WE CAN ALL LIVE A BETTER LIFE. TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE AT THE FEDERAL AND STATE LEVEL MEANS LESS AND LESS FREEDOM FOR ALL.

I am glad the effort is being made to reduce spending, however I agree with Ms. Crawley. There are so many areas that can be addressed to reduce billions more. There are whole departments that can be eliminated.(NEA, Dept. Of Energy,TSA,Agriculture subsidies,Most of OSHA,IRS,.) The list goes on and on!. Please don't fall into the beltway mentality that says we have to have these things. Everyone outside the beltway knows we do not! I appreciate the effort so far but "we the people" know it is not nearly close to being enough. Thanks for letting us know what is going on.

So you thing you have the answers! It took eight years of your party to ruin the economy in order to break the unions and ship most jobs in our area over seas. Also entered the US into the most expensive war in history. At least Obama is try to dig us out while your party stood by the rich and watched it happen. I know that either party answers to the rich or the economy would falter. I believe the Democrat's keep things in better check or at least try. Quit throwing up figures and stalling and help the working man. The rich will do fine no matter what!

Thank you for sharing this information. Everyone, except the extremely rich, are suffering because of these economic conditions. We can not stand higher taxes, cuts in services that we really need. Everyone in Washington should remember that the people voted you all in....not the party. When you vote, please stand up for us. It is a shame that the majority of our citizens have a tough time deciding whether to buy groceries or buy medications, pay a power bill or the house payment. It is obvious that we can't do both. I believe our founding fathers must be turning over in their graves knowing what America has become. Please continue to help the people. We are counting on you. Cut active military by 60%, defend only our Homelands. 3. Begin a serious program to force illegal immigrants back to country of origin. 4. Eliminate all forms of foreign aid. Be fair to all: we cant afford any of you. 5. Abolish Fed Dept Education, HEW 6. Cease market manipulation with farm subsidy. 7. Carefully study and implement reform of entitlement programs 8. It is unclear ro me just what the Republicans plan to cut. Most governments would raise taxes and cut spending, but we are very one-sided. Also, remember the famous words of Dick Cheney "Deficits don't matter; Reagan proved that." The Republicans got us into this mess by fighting two wars on credit. Obama wants to invest in things that will mak us more competitive as a nation, such as green industries and decent rail service and cheaper health care. We spend more money on health care than any other nation and ten times more on defense and we are not getting our money's worth on either. Why do you think the average Southern soldier during the Civil War fought so hard and bravely? Not because he had slaves or great wealth. He had neither. He fought because his country was being invaded. Same with the Iraquis and Afgans fighting us today. We still haven't killed Bin Laden and its been almost 10 years.

I always worry about the Republicans caving in to the onslaught of comments by Democrats about the "Mean Spirited" Republicans depriving the "Old Folks" (I am one of them @ 73) or ruining Education, or stealing from the poor, etc., etc., etc.. Hang tough everyone knows what has to be done and that we will all get hurt in some fashion, but DO WHAT IS NECESSARY to get fiscal sanity into the system. Everyone knows a politicians priority is to get reelected, but if you do what is right, you will, The left mobilizes the loud mouths better than the Republicians but don't let them deter you, do what is right. preserve, Protect and Defend.

You and your Republican colloleages need to stop talking about our outrageous deficit and do something about it. Surely there is some way to reduce spending (including entitlements) to a level which does not keep out children and grandchildren in debt for generations to come!

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS LOOK AT THE PAYROLL FOR YOUR COUNTY AND GOVERNMENT PERSONAL TO SEE WHERE THE CUTS NEED TO START. IT IS UNREAL WHAT THE PAY IS FOR SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS PRINCIPLES AND OTHERS. ITS SO UNFAIR TO ASK SENIORS TO LIVE ON 5-8 HUNDRED A MONTH AND THOSE IN OFFICE WANT 100-200 THOUSAND A MONTH AND THE FIRST CUTS ARE THE ELDERLY ID BE ASHAMED THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THE LEAST ARE THE ONES YOU CALL FOR SUPPORT MONEY AND AT ELECTIONS AND AS SOON AS YOUR IN YOU START TAKING MORE AND MORE .EVERYTHING HAS WENT UP BUT YET WE ARE EXPECTED TO MAKE IT ON THE SAME PAY AS 4 YEARS AGO . I SAY PUT A PAY CAP ON OIL ANYTIME YOU NEED MORE MONEY ITS WELL LETS GO UP ON TAXES HOME GROCERY OIL PHONE WATER SO ON AND I AGREE WITH MR DEITZ TO MUCH GOVERNMENT. THE ASSISTANTS NEED ASSISTANTS GET SMART OR GET VOTED OUT I SAY AMERICANS ARE TIRED OF ALL THE FIGHTING BETWEEN REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS AND IF YOU NEED TO SEE WHERE GOVERNMENT WASTE IS WATCH WBTV NEWS EACH NIGHT MONEY WATCH AND THEY'LL TELL YOU HOW ITS BEING WASTED . THANKS FOR THE TIME IVE SAID ENOUGH .

Great job you are doing, Patrick. To ease the budget situation some, I suggest the following: cut out all the czars and their offices and personnel; limit travel for the Obamas (use of Air Force 1 is expensive and often unnecessary); cut out all the amenities for illegals; send them home.

I really can't understand what part of we're BROKE don't the Democrats understand. We are ALL going to have to tighten our belts more but you look at this Senate, they think because they have a printing press that for some reason that America can just keep spending. They are pretty darn good at spending someone else's money. I hope their own checking accounts are in better shape. But look at the Treasury Secretary he couldn't even do his own taxes so what do we expect? Get a Flat Tax passed and STOP SPENDING !! PERIOD !!

I am tired of supporting non citizens and their whole families. We are taxed to death and on death try to get all we have to leave our children. You keep up the good work. Lots of good ideals in the comments. My sister just called me to request prayer for her daughter-in-laws father. He lives in poland. He has waited 8 years for open heart surgery. It is bad. They are not sure it will help now. They would not let him come here either. So I say let the ones who want gov. run go to these countrys. I was in Germany with my millitary husband and traveled to Austria and Holland and it was hard getting in and out. Also they took our passport at the hotel and gave it back after we paid and was ready to go. My husband is a disabeled Viet. Nam vet. They are takeing part of his or makeing him pay more. Talking about ss and medi-care and tri-care for life. So If we take a deductions etc. Everyone should take a cut. Especially the do notings in DC. Cut their high expense accounts. Sorry I don't count you as one of them yet. All the pork that is for like Nancy P. fish. They need to cut the states that are handing out money to all and want people to reap the benefits of citizens hard work and they cannot get the help they need and are supposed to get. Acorn and that sort of mess. Not paying taxes for years and you are one of the tax people. Then whine and cry. and say you did not understand. I am sure you know one I mean. Dig deep for fraud. It is out there. God Bless you and Good Luck.

A little food for thought. It is hard to manage a budget without knowing what is in it. We need to audit the Federal Reserve to find out what is being done with all this money. After that I think we could start to make some wise decisions on how to balance this out of control spending.I think you are on the right track to start to control this runaway train wreck that is ahead if we don't get it stoped. Let me say thankyou to all that are trying to stop this loonacy that has ben going on for the last decade or longer.

Good video. I agree with other commenters that the present cut is not huge, but I understand for a need to go slowly. You couldn't possibly cut back on the levels that I would like to see without causing chaos in the country. Cutting Planned Parenthood was good. Now can we please cut ALL funding for NPR and National Public TV. They take everybodies tax dollars but they only put forward their liberal message in every aspect of programming. Cut out subsidizing these huge farming conglomerates. It's the little farmers that need it, not these big organizations. I could go on and on. Thanks for your efforts. Please encourage ALL your fellow republicans to stick together and beat this insane spending.

The dollar is not seen as money by the government. The government does not work for the dollars they get so it's only numbers to them. Big numbers don't scare the government.
  • Martin Carpenter commented on 2/20/2011
There needs to be a cap on the national debt and that is now. No more raising the limit.....There are just so many ways that we can reduce the federal budget. Start by eliminating the Departments of Energy, Education and reduce all of the other Departments to the 2000 level. Remove all of the Czars that the President has appointed........ Whenever more citizens are receiving aid from the federal government then are paying into it on the payroll tax, we need to go to a fair tax and eliminate the IRS. Why punish someone for working and trying to make a living........This debt (14 trillion dollars) that have been incurred by the members of congress needs to be paid back by them and not the taxpayers......The reason social security is bankrupt is because Congress used the money for other things. Make them replace this money in the system and remove all illegal immigrants from our social security that we have paid into all our lives. Place social security in someones hands to operate other than the Federal Government. The Federal Government cannot even protect our borders.......Enough is Enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rep. McHenry: Regarding reducing deficit reduction, I agree we can't keep kicking the can down the road. But I don't think this gives anyone license to kick the poor and middle-class, either. We need to take a look at what the upper class can do to help out. President Kennedy's exhortation to "ask what you can do for your country" should apply to everyone, particularly the wealthy who have been riding high on the hog. This privileged class should be required to pitch in to get the country out of debt, and the best way they can do this is to pay more taxes. It would be a small thing to do after all the advantages their status has provided them.

This was a great video and I'm sending it to friends & family locally and far away. It's a simple but clever way to put the numbers in perspective. There are many of us in Rowan County/Salisbury, NC, who wish you could represent us too - and in your own way you do. Our local Tea Party Patriots are proud of you. Sending you our heartfelt thanks for doing the good conservative works that need doing and wishing you courage and strength in the difficult investigative committee work ahead. Those of us who know DC from prior insider experience are fiercely proud to have great conservative patriots like you working for NC and the USA. Thanks and God bless you.

I understand that when AZ decided to come down on Illegals and ENFORCE the laws that be, AZ's income went up and expenses went down! Why can't we add that as another starting position? How much are illegals costing us? Take into consideration the ones that are incarcerated in our prisons as well!
  • Lori McIntyre commented on 2/21/2011
One more thing, collect the taxes from gov't members that owe!

House Republicans cannot back down at all, no matter how badly the liberal Main Stream Media assails you and claims you are starving people, etc, you must stay on course. Most Americans see thru their liberal bias. Cut any and all funding to Planned Parenthood, PBS, NPR, NEA; let them stand or sink on their own merits, not at the expense of the taxpayer. Defund and eliminate the Dept. of Education, EPA and cut back on the budget of the IRS and let Obama know in no uncertain terms, he will NOT be hiring an additional 6000 IRS agents. It seems to me that his budget is just a work around to fund parts of the Health Care reform fiasco and to undo some of the Bush tax cuts. Stand firm Congressman.
  • Rick Penley commented on 2/21/2011
This is only a start. There is so much waste in government to choose from to cut costs. Eliminate the Dept of Education and Energy. Cut the EPA and Labor Dept. by 50%. Eliminate subsidies for agriculture and oil. Eliminate union bargaining in the public sector. Don't fund military systems that the military doesn't want but are keep in place because of the congressional district that it is being produced in. Let the states be responsible for their own roads and bridges. If a regulation does not meet the common sense smell test, eliminate it. Hickory, NC.

I am with you. We need to lower taxes to create more money at home for the people paying the most in taxes.Eliminate the alternative minimun tax .This tax was a sneaky way to get more money out of the middle class. To spend 3 months out of the year just paying the government takes all the fun out of working. I enjoy my profession but sending 1/3rd of every dollar to Washington makes you wonder is it worth it? Based on the track record, I say we need " change" alright, the right kind of change, the old fashion kind, the kind that pays your bills and stops spending money you do not have.Washington does not believe that we are on the edege of a revolt.Who is to blame? The responsibility rest soley on the members of the U.S.Congress.

Dear Congressman and Senators: I never thought that the US Congress and Senate were guilty of discrimination until now, but all of you are. It is unjust and unfair for so many unemployed citizens to receive 99 weeks of unemployment benefits and others only get 50 weeks. There are no jobs on MAIN Street in the US. The fault lies with Wall Street, US Government and Large Corporations. Our economic malt-down is not the fault of working Americans. On the 6:00 news in Charlotte, North Carolina it was just reported that all of the jobs our wonderful Governor has announced over the last year have not come to pass. Only 50% of the businesses have even started to do anything. Very few jobs have been created. Just talking to make herself feel good. The speeches that I have heard from both houses of our government are not talking about the current problems, only reference to the future. Well if more families loss their homes and go into foreclosure, guess what our children and grandchildren have; no future. We need jobs now! Why are we not cutting aid to foreign countries? Americans are getting tird of footing the bill for other countries, many of which want to see US go under. Why don’t we stop the lifelong benefits of ex-congressman and ex-senators? If government employees have a net worth of over 2 million dollars, why can't they forgo their salaries for 2 years? And be really in public service.
  • Holly Pritchard commented on 2/22/2011
Thats our Congressman! Thank you! I have worked in the health service field for 20 years. I have lost my Life Insurance Policy, extreamly 'high cost' medical insurance & decrease in my hourly wages for the last 4 years!!! I get it!! I also have seen Union members in action over the last 30 years! ( not apart of the Union since 1982) There was a time and place for it, NO MORE! If its a little corrupt, its all corrupt. We can do this! I have certainly seen alot of 'stand up' people. Makes me proud!
